I was raised between Portugal and Angola, in a South Asian Muslim and Catholic family where menstruation, contraception and sex were simply not spoken about. When I had my first period, I was handed pads. Tampons? Out of the question. Sex? Only after marriage.

I know my story is not unique. It is the story of millions of racialised women, especially Muslim and South Asian girls, who grew up without access to basic knowledge about their bodies.

That’s why I created Habibi Fertility: a community and educational platform to talk openly about these topics. I created the platform I wish had existed for me. Through culturally sensitive education, bilingual content, and a justice-oriented lens, Habibi Fertility supports people to take control of their menstrual, sexual & reproductive health with knowledge, dignity, and care. Because understanding your body should never be a privilege, the it should be a right.

I learnt the Fertility Awareness Method in 2021 for personal use and quickly fell in love with it.  In early 2024, I decided to become a certified fertility awareness & menstrual health educator so I could bring this necessary knowledge to my community. I now teach people how to chart their cycles and evidence-based ovulation signs for birth control.
